Maison Lucien: a French bistro in Hội An

A Norman chef, a Vietnamese partner, and a family story.

Hội An’s Old Town is one of those places where you love to stroll. But it is also an essential gastronomic stop for anyone visiting Vietnam. Of course, you’ll find countless Vietnamese restaurants, but also many establishments offering non-Vietnamese cuisine: there is something for every palate!

Only a French bistro was missing to complete the picture. Well, now it’s done. Maison Lucien has just opened its doors, and we’re already salivating.

A Norman chef with 25 years of experience, a Vietnamese partner born in Hội An, and a shared passion for the art of service, wine, cocktails, and above all, good craftsmanship: all the ingredients are here to make Maison Lucien a truly exceptional place.

A family story

Maison Lucien is also a story of heritage. The restaurant is named after the chef’s grandfather, Lucien, who was a charcutier in Bayeux. A generous and authentic craftsman, a fervent defender of flavour with a capital “F” and of conviviality, Lucien passed down essential values to his grandson: simplicity, respect for ingredients, and love for the craft. Read more in the story behind the name.

The restaurant is set in an old house renovated in line with the heritage rules of the Old Town. The yellow facade has been preserved, and the original wooden beams were recovered and reused for the terrace. Everything was designed to minimise the carbon footprint and to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. See how we built it by hand.

Homemade cuisine

Maison Lucien’s menu offers French recipes revisited with a Vietnamese twist, using fresh, local, carefully selected ingredients. Everything is homemade, with the clear intention of supporting the local economy. Some products are imported, such as wines and cheeses, without which a French bistro wouldn’t be a French bistro, but most ingredients come from trustworthy Vietnamese artisans.

The menu changes with the seasons. See what we are serving now.

Maison Lucien is much more than a restaurant: it is a heartfelt table, a place of memory and sharing, somewhere between Normandy and Vietnam.

A must-visit for those who love food that is good, honest, and true. Address: 7/1 Phan Bội Châu, Cẩm Châu, Hội An.
